So proud & happy to receive updates like this from the Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation that we support…
We all love a story with a happy ending.
The girls and boys we see every day at Blue Dragon have come through such difficult times that it can seem impossible to imagine that they might see any light at the end of the tunnel.
For young people who have been trafficked, abused and abandoned, happy endings can seem as unrealistic as a fairy tale.
So on Tuesday last week, when May and Trang stood before their friends at the Blue Dragon shelter to say farewell, it was a touching moment.
Both May and Trang came to us as teenage girls who had endured the terror of human trafficking. They were deceived by people posing as their friends and sold into sexual slavery across the border in China.
When we rescued them and brought them back to Vietnam, they were traumatized and terrified. For weeks, they could not look anyone in the eye or say more than a few mumbled words.
But now, more than one year later, these proud young women are ready to move on. They have joined in regular counseling sessions at Dragon House, they have lived with other survivors of trafficking in a safe house, and they have seen their studies through to completion.
May and Trang are ready to take the next massive step in their lives, and move out of the safe house to live independently while they start new jobs in a restaurant.
It’s amazing to think how far they have both come. Their journeys have never been easy, but they have persevered and held their heads high. We hope you will share our pride at seeing them enter this new stage of life, free from the shackles of slavery that once appeared unbreakable.”
